A nice family resort with wide pistes and few trees. Lots of easy off-piste available between runs and serious backcountry skiers can go off the back of the mountain toward Lenzerheide: a linking lift is under development. Good for a long weekend, but not much more. The drive up there from Chur is Switchback Hell, take the train if possible. Lots of flat, poorly connected runs at the bottom of the lifts, skiers, sledders and walkers all mix together in a confusing muddle. Good for: Families and weaker intermediates. Dull for: Strong intermediates and up.

The magic of Arosa never ceases to enchant us. For the past 11 winters, we have looked at brochures of other skiing resorts, but that's as far as it gets: We always return to Arosa! When snow conditions around Europe are not the best, put Arosa to the test! It is not overcommerc. as many of the better known resorts, but probably boasts an equal or better infrastructure to suit all tastes. Safe pistes for the young and not so young, as well as challenging runs for the more experienced. If you don't ski or snowboard, try the many walks through the forests or in the blazing sun. The road up the valley gives the feeling of a rally (365 bends), but the train journey from Chur is far more spectacular and convenient. Free bus transport is available in Arosa during the whole skiing season. Don't tell too many people about Arosa, we are going back again next season.

Nestling in the depths of the Schanfigger valley, Arosa is a rather special resort. It has a limited number of slopes, although the village itself is quite large playing its part in offering many activities to non-skiers. It is however true that the tranquillity which drifts over Arosa is more favourable to peace of mind than a surfeit of long-drop downhill skiing. And so in spite of an excellent snowpark and the far from insignificant scope for skiing off-piste, Arosa continues to be predominantly a family resort.
