The skiing in Champoluc is great, but not very challenging. The snow is much the same as Zermat or Cervinia at a third of the price of Zermat and a bit more than half the price of Cervinia ! If you want apres ski, go somewhere else, but if you want well prepared pistes, fantastic scenery, great value mountain restaurants, and friendly locals, Champoluc has it all. If you get up early you can drive to Cervinia and take a day pass for the Zermat ski domain, ski down into Switzerland for lunch (Try Max & Greti at Zum Zee, the best mountain restaurant in the world) ski one or two decents from Klein Materhorn then Ski the 14km Ventina pist from the top of Klein Materhorn (4000m) over plateau rosa, in to Cervinia, you wont need any apres ski after that, just a good dinner and bed

pro Scenic slopes con Limited nightlife

One of the best for us. Our party of 6 (mainly intermediate level) arrived at the resort the day after 90cm of snow had fallen (13/1/08 to 20/1/08). The area itself was great for us: - pistes, so quiet Monday to Friday and I mean quiet, well groomed, mainly red of varied terrain and enough in the 3 valleys (small) to keep you entertained. Only downside was to move across/back and up the mountain you where always reliant on just one lift. - views, fantastic from the top, huge peaks of the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa and Mont Blanc in the distance. - it is worth noting that this is not the place for beginners or young children. - with regards to shops etc we quite liked the size and variety. - apres? well we are middle aged so happy to sit in the bar of the hotel and drink sambuca and jack (happy hour 4 till 6). - eating on piste was very pleasant especially at the top of Belvedere (had good loos also). Overall we loved it and would definetely go back.

pro Good mountain restaurants con Accessebility ski-area

Skiresort profile

Champoluc is situated in the Aosta Valley and is part of the Monte Rosa ski area, which has a combined total of 200km of runs. The resort is generally quiet and uncrowded, except during the first week of January when half of Turin heads off to the resort. The majority of the runs are best suited for intermediates, with a few good runs for beginners. Experts have a few good off-pistes to choose from, but some travelling is required to get to the really good stuff. Champoluc is a beautiful traditional Italian resort with some amazing scenery, and good Apres Ski. This is a great place to take the whole family for an unforgettable skiing holiday.
