The facilities at Saalbach are excellent and the local people friendly and very helpful. The infrastructure of the resort was superb and the skiing first class. The ski school instructors all spoke good English and catered for all levels. Some of the slopes were a little challenging but there is plenty for all in the area. Due to the layout of the ski lifts one could follow different routes each day. We would recommend this resort for beginners and intermediate skiers. The apres-ski in Saalbach is one of the best!

Saalbach is a resort not may Americans know about. It is tucked away in its own valley not far from the beautiful resort of Zell am See. The skiing here is some of the best in the Alps. The ski area spreads itself along both sides of the valley. This gives you a variety of ski conditions due to the exposure of the sun. Keep this in mind when skiing the “ski circus” of Saalbach. With fifteen Gondolas and a multitude of lifts, there is always a new adventure to be found on the mountain. The resort has beautiful chalet style restaurants scattered through out the mountain. Skiing is not the only thing to do at Saalbach. The night life is what is to be expected at an Austrian ski resort – fun and unforgetable. With your ski pass you can ride the gondola in the evening at Hinterglemm for free to take advantage of a their rodel run. If you are looking for even more speed take a spin at the ice track with go-carts fitted with spiked tires. Saalbach is a resort that you could come back to time and time again.

We said we would never use same resort 2 years running but our group of 5 all agreed to return. We met German and Dutch Skiers on their 12th and 16th consecutive years. Great variety of piste/off piste, very good lift systems, great affordable mountain eating everywhere. Highly recommend Furstar Ski School for instruction and guides ( ound lots of safer basic off piste for our intermediate level). We finished the week completing the "Ski Circus" in one day, your feet will *** off!! Stayed in Hotel Panther, best location for lifts and pubs but certain rooms are a little exposed to late night street revellers/early morning pub delivery's. Some of our group are returning for a weekend late March. Really recommend "The Mountain-feast" evening, great food, mad fun and games, and "Go-Carts on ICE"! Not a resort to buy equipment, prices higher than the UK. We will be back!

Saalbach is one of the ski meccas of Austria. It boasts an extensive ski area, many facilities for snowboarders (twelve kilometres of runs are reserved for them), and a fantastic night life. Add sports facilities and accommodation right at the base of the slopes, and you have one of the most popular destinations in Europe. However, there are two disadvantages. The continual excitement in the resort does not make for a quiet holiday. And, the snow conditions are not always great due to the low altitude of the resort and to numerous south-facing slopes. Located a few kilometres above Saalbach is the resort of Hinterglemm. It has the same advantages and disadvantages as its big sister. Hinterglemm offers the same superb ski area, but also suffers from a lack of snow. In the evening, the atmosphere is exciting, but the activities available are less numerous than at Saalbach.
