Just got back from Val Thorens. The conditions were excellent last week, with a thick layer of fresh snow and clear blue skies. I have to say it was very very crowded. A perfect resort, with a good mix of slopes for mainly beginners, and intermediates. The three ski areas of i)Kitzsteinhorn with the glacier skiing above Kaprun, ii) The Maisikogel where you can ski down into the centre of Kaprun, iii) The Schmittenhohe above Zell am See with fantastic views over the lake at Zell am See and beyond. We fell in love with the place; great snow, friendly people and cheap prices. The prices are excellent compared to other resorts. I think Valfrejus has real potential. For value, I believe there is nowhere better in the Alpes. You will not be disappointed. Obergurgl is a lovely old fashioned traditional resort which is popular with families. Because the resort is high up conditions are mostly excellent, I think bad weather can be common and we had two days of quite heavy snow which made conditions challenging!
